You know how much we love a good hike here in Maine and finding them throughout the state is easy. There are so many to choose from that the hardest part is really just narrowing down the options. It’s beautiful, a bit lesser-known, and offers lots of fun.

Elizabeth Vaughan gifted the woods of her home to the state of Maine in 1949 asking that it be kept wild. Her only stipulation has been heeded and today the area is beautiful.

Vaughan Woods State Park offers 160 acres of land filled with mixed-growth forests made up of hundred-year-old trees.

One of the most beautiful features is the Salmon Falls River, which the park is adjacent to. Beautiful any time of year, this river adds to the calming atmosphere.

There are multiple trails meandering through the state park.

They vary in length from the 0.7-mile Bridle Path Trail to the longer 2-mile Vaughan Woods Memorial Trail.
