The capitol of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Frankfort is a beautiful river town with a celebrated history.

Kentucky’s favorite founding father is honored at the Daniel Boone Burial Site, located at 215 E Main Street. Come and pay your respects to this legendary explorer; it will set the tone for a day of historic highs in this historic Kentucky town.

A slight detour that’s worth taking is the utterly charming Switzer Covered Bridge. Built by George Hockersmith in 1855, this beguiling bridge is 126 feet long and 11 feet wide, and a shining example of the Howe truss design. Renovated in 1998, this bridge is listed on the National Historic Register and is open from dawn to dusk.

The Old Governor’s Mansion was built in 1797 and served as the residence of 33 Kentucky governors, until a new home was built in 1914. It’s a beautiful, Federalist-style building that’s listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Liberty Hall Historic Site is another must-visit in Frankfort. This lovely Federalist home harkens back to the turn of the 19th century. It was built by American statesman John Brown, and designated in 1971 as a U.S. National Historic Landmark for its association with Brown and its quintessential Federalist-style architecture.
