Hikes in Maine are unlike any other outdoor adventure. Whether through woods, around lakes, or along the coast, there’s always something beautiful to see. One of our favorite things to search for are waterfalls near me in Maine. But, when TWO waterfalls are the prize at the end of a hike … then we know we’ve hit the outdoor jackpot. Check out this hike to see what we mean!
For this hike, you’ll be heading to Andover, home of Lovejoy Bridge.

You’ll start this hike on the Appalachian Trail.
Marc Dominianni / Flickr First, head to East B Hill / Andover Road where you’ll find the Appalachian Trail. Head south along the AT, and the Cascades Trail leading to Dunn Falls is a short hike south. You’ll find a stream a short way from the road but don’t cross it!
You’ll know the Cascade Trail by the blue blazes on the trees.

The trail is fairly narrow and runs through the forest following the stream.

In about a half-mile, the trail crosses the stream. In a quarter of a mile, you’ll head down to the West Branch of the Ellis River.

The Cascade Trail continues west following the south bank of the river, going upstream towards the falls.

There are lots of lovely other waterfalls here, with small pools and banks of sand.

Just after this, the trail forks — take the right fork to reach the pool under the Lower Dunn Falls.
colong7034 / YouTube Take the left fork to access areas that are further upstream and get to the top of Lower Dunn Falls.
To get to Upper Dunn Falls, you’ll go over the West Branch of the Ellis River. You’ll soon see the blue-blaze Cascade Trail separating from the AT, heading uphill toward Upper Dunn Falls.
