In a state as gorgeous as wild and wonderful West Virginia, there’s no better way to experience all our beauty than to get out and walk through nature. We’ve got countless municipal parks, 35 state parks, and six national parks. That’s a lot of parks, and they’re filled with even more trails. If you’re looking for a park filled with some of the best trails in West Virginia, you’ll definitely want to check out Camp Creek State Park. This 550-acre area is just off I-77 and not far from the southern tip of the state.

One trail we really love here is the Camp Creek trail. It connects to several other trails within the park, so you can really make it as long or as short as you like.

The path is paved and not difficult at all to walk. There’s very little elevation gain, so it’s a great option if you’re looking for an outing with children or dogs.

There are a couple of small waterfalls on the trail (Campbell Falls and Mush Creek Falls.)

Kody Newland/Alltrails Their visibility will depend greatly on the season and recent rainfall. Sometimes they’re quite impressive, and at other times they are each barely a trickle.

Between the park and the state forest next to it, there are over 35 miles of trails!

The seven miles of streams throughout the park are seasonally stocked with trout.

Matthew Turner/Alltrails If you go in the fall, make sure to bring a pole and some bait if you want to fish!

Pack a lunch and have a picnic by the creek.

Amanda Rupert/Alltrails Dining al fresco is a special experience that will really bump your hike up to the next level.

No matter what the season, this is a lovely trail that will show you all the beauty of West Virginia.
