Living in Washington means having access to the best seafood, authentic Mexican cuisine, fresh farm-to-table goodness, and so much more. And while the Evergreen State isn’t exactly a BBQ hot spot, there are still plenty of tasty places to go when only brisket or ribs will do.

BBQ Pete’s has been a bit of an unsung hero since 1972, and they’ve only gotten better—and more locally loved—over time.

It all started in 1972, when Pete opened the first Pete’s BBQ location in Tacoma. In 1976, the operation expanded to the Washington State Fair in Puyallup.

Although Pete retired from the restaurant business in 1995, the Peterson family still operates both locations and runs the show at the fairgrounds.

BBQ Pete’s / Facebook Pete’s son, Ryan, worked at The Keg in Federal Way and at both Ivar’s and Anthony’s before taking over at Pete’s. He also ventured through the American Barbecue Belt, attending competitions and connecting with some excellent pit masters and restaurateurs.

BBQ Pete’s was designed to be a friendly, casual space, with counter-style “sudden service” having a higher level of quality and professionalism.
