The United States Interstate System is truly a planning marvel. Highways criss-cross the land, creating pathways through mountains and over rivers in ways that may seem impossible to anyone who isn’t an engineer. One of the country’s busiest routes, I-80, passes through a big chunk of Wyoming, and the Cowboy State has certainly left its mark on the route.

I-80 is one of America’s most iconic routes. It starts in New York City and travels all the way west to San Francisco. It’s truly a coast-to-coast route, and the highest point along the way is here in Wyoming.

You might not even notice the elevation gain, as there’s no winding mountain passes or steep grades. Once you roll past Cheyenne, toward Laramie, you’ll be approaching the little town of Buford.

When we say little… we mean it. Buford has a population of 1, but lots of visitors swing by to see the town’s few attractions.

…but tbe Buford Trading Post serves up good coffee and snacks, and you can snag a souvenir, if you’d like.

While you’re nearby, stop by the strangest roadside attraction in Wyoming.

There’s also the tree in the rock roadside attraction!

Have you visited Buford? Did you see anyone there, or did you hang out with the most resilient tree in the state? We’d love to hear your I-80 stories below!
