Cadott lies right next to the 45th Parallel, the spot that’s about 3,000 miles north of the Equator and 3,000 miles south of the North Pole. Signs in and around town mark the spot.

Cadott has a long history. Back in 1785 Jean Baptiste Cadotte established a trading post on the Yellow River near modern Cadott. It’s a place that still embraces its history.

For years the area remained wild and undeveloped. In 1865 progress arrived when Robert Marriner built a dam and sawmill on the river and platted the town – he named it Cadotte Falls after the past trading post on the river. In later years, dairy farmers arrived.

Today Cadott is a bustling village in Chippewa Falls. It has a population of about 1,400 people. The Yellow River passes my the north side of town – it’s a tributary of the Chippewa River that’s mostly undeveloped – it starts in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest.

In the logging era, the loggers floated lumber to market on these waters, but today the river is popular with paddlers and anglers – the most common catch is northern pike and suckers. You can trade fishing tales at one of the town’s friendly establishments.
