The arrival of the first trains in Chicago in the mid-1800s opened up a world of travel in the state of Illinois. Over time, more rails were built around the state and the need for larger stations grew. In 1925, four railroad companies joined together in union to build the Chicago Union Station, an iconic landmark in the city. This historic train station in Illinois is ornate, stunning, and there’s no other one like it in the state.
The iconic Chicago Union Station first opened in May 1925. The idea for it first came from architect Daniel Burnham and it was ultimately constructed by the architectural firm Graham, Anderson, Probst, and White.
