Known as Virginia’s only resort island, Chincoteague makes for an excellent destination in any season. The seaside village is tucked away between Wallops Island and Assateague Island, offering an abundance of water views for as far as the eye can see.

The first thing you’ll notice upon your arrival is that the pace of life is more akin to island time around here, and that’s part of the appeal! Taking a stroll downtown, you’ll quickly fall in love with the local shops, cafes, and restaurants.

No trip to Chincoteague Island is complete without spending time in the great outdoors. The Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge is home to the famous wild ponies who graze on the salt marsh grasses so common to the area.

The 14,000-acre refuge is home to an impressive variety of wildlife. The unique landscape makes for an important stopover for upwards of 300 species of migratory birds.
