Any dog lover will tell you, outdoor adventures are always more fun with your canine best friend. And Clark Creek State Park in Woodville, Mississippi is no exception.

This trail is nestled in an area locals call Tunica Falls, so named for the 50 or so spring-fed waterfalls in the area, ranging from miniature to 30-feet high. Entry to this unusual landscape is only $2 per person.

The state park feels completely unlike the rest of Mississippi. You’ll feel more like you’re climbing through the woods of upstate New York. You’re even likely to run into a black bear, an unusual species for this state, that thrives in the Clark Creek environment.

Only a small fraction of the Tunica Falls waterfalls are viewable from the trails, but the ones you’ll spot in Clark Creek are worth the hike.

While enjoying the rigorous hike and the aesthetic waterfalls, keep an eye out for native plants, like this wild blue phlox flower.

The Improved Trail and the Primitive Trail are two great hikes to take with a dog in Clark Creek. Improved is 1.75 miles and Primitive is 2.6. Both occasionally feature built wooden staircases to bridge unstable terrain.

Tripadvisor / Emily G The hikes are rigorous, but not too challenging for someone with basic hiking experience. Your pup will be excited, and likely tuckered out, after a day of exploration here.

And the sights and sounds of this unique Mississippi enclave make the work completely worth it.
