While you won’t find any vast mountain ranges or 14,000-foot peaks in Wisconsin, there are a few trails that will get your heart pumping and reward you with mountain-like panoramic views. You’ll find one of these trails near the appropriately named community of Mountain and the hike is simply amazing. It’s not a long trail, but it’s not a walk in the park either. Here’s what’s waiting for you on the Chute Pond Overlook Trail.

You’ll find the start of this hike in Oconto County. It’s an easy day trip escape for much of the state – it’s about an hour drive from Green Bay and less than two hours from Milwaukee.

The lake here is a popular spot for recreation – it has a natural water slide. It was created in the 1850s by a long dam; and in 1937, a more robust concrete dam was constructed.
