Colorado Was Named One Of The Worst States To Drive In

Can we let you in on a little (not-so) secret? Colorado is being called one of the worst states to drive in. Not surprised? Neither were we. We were, however, interested to hear why Colorado is so awful, which is where Wallethub and its recently published 2022’s Best & Worst States To Drive In comes in:

It’s official: Colorado is the 7th worst state to drive in, as it just came in at #44 on Wallethub’s list.

As per Wallethub - which based its findings on Cost of Ownership & Maintenance, Traffic & Infrastructure, Safety, and Access to Vehicles & Maintenance - Colorado scored an overall 50.85, with the safest state (Iowa) scoring 62.04.

Colorado had a low score in Cost of Ownership & Maintenance (which factors Average Gas Prices, Auto-Maintenance Costs, and Average Annual Car Insurance Premium), coming in at #40 overall.

Shocking no one, Colorado’s Traffic & Infrastructure (Share of Rush-Hour Traffic Congestion, Increase in Vehicle Travel on Highways (2019 vs. 2000), and Road Quality) also came in low, scoring #38.

Sadly, Safety (Traffic Indiscipline, Traffic Fatality Rate, and Car Theft Rate) also isn’t a given on Colorado streets, with the Centennial State coming in at only #33.

Thankfully, Colorado DID score decently in Access to Vehicles & Maintenance (Car Dealerships per Capita, Gas Stations per Capita, and Alternative Fuel Stations per Capita), coming in in the top half (#16).

As if you needed another reason to stay off the road and keep your car locked, Colorado scored the worst overall in car theft.
