In far southern Indiana there’s a little town called Corydon. This town is special for lots of reasons; namely, it was the capital of the Indiana Territory from 1813 to 1816. In 1816, it became the state capital, but by 1826, that title had been moved to Indianapolis. Still, there’s enough history here to keep the history buffs intrigued, and enough shops, restaurants, and great local attractions to keep just about anyone happy while they’re here as well. Corydon is a historic town in Indiana perfect for getting away from it all.

Corydon, Indiana, has a population of fewer than 4,000 residents.

The neighborhoods are colorful and photogenic. Upon arrival, you get an almost immediate sense of home, as if you’ve always belonged here.

Visit Indiana’s very fist capitol building and learn about Indiana’s journey into statehood.

Other historic destinations in town include the Cedar Hill Cemetery, and the Leora Brown School. There are several more, too, so make sure to check out all of your options when you arrive.

History lovers and casual explorers will also want to visit the world-famous Butt Drugs, which Corydon is proud to claim as its very own.

Jennifer Krauel/Flickr Butt Drugs is an absolutely legendary local pharmacy that grew into something else entirely. Today, it sells all sorts of unique and offbeat confections, and many people come to Corydon JUST to hang out here for a little while. To learn more about this local legend, check out this article.

Other attractions in the area include caverns you can visit and tour, O’Bannon Woods State Park, and four different bridges.

Jon Stepro/Flickr There are countless local shops, galleries, and eateries that will take this from a good trip to a great trip, and we definitely recommend eating and shopping local while you’re here. You won’t regret it.

Honestly, you might just want to live here.
