Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, a global raptor conservation facility, draws visitors from all over the state and beyond all year around. It’s an ideal destination to learn about birds of prey, to attend a variety of events, and to take part in educational workshops. You can also explore some of its 2,600 acres on one of the five scenic hiking trails. Arguably one of the most challenging, River of Rocks Trail in Pennsylvania is a one-of-a-kind path worth the effort – if you’re up for it.

If you’re up for a pretty good workout and a challenge, follow the River of Rocks Loop Trail, which tallies just four miles.

However, those four miles pack a whole lot of gorgeous terrain and scenic beauty. The sanctuary rates the trail as hard while AllTrails gives it a moderate rating.

If you’re up for the challenge, lace up a pair of sturdy hiking shoes or boots. You’re going to hike through several boulder fields.

Keep an eye out for the trail’s markers - even in the boulder fields. You can climb the bigger boulders, too, if you want.

Hawk Mountain Sanctuary recommends planning to spend at least three or four hours on the trail, especially if you want to complete the full loop.
