We’d like to begin the adventure at the world’s largest children’s museum, which just so happens to be our very own.
The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis/Facebook The Indianapolis Children’s Museum is quite literally world-famous for its massive size. Inside is seemingly endless educational opportunities that both you and the kids will find engaging and fun. We couldn’t think of a better place to get this show on the road. Learn more about this epic kid’s paradise in this previous article. The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, 3000 N Meridian St, Indianapolis, IN 46208, USA
While in Indy, and when we’re finished at the museum (which usually take a couple hours), we’ll head to the Indianapolis Zoo.
Indianapolis Zoo/Facebook Watch the kids’ faces light up with delight at the sight of amazing critters like lions, tigers, and bears (…we’re not gonna say it). Explore their interests with hands-on presentations, enclosures, and so much more. You can even arrange for the family to meet some friendly dolphins! Indianapolis Zoo, 1200 W Washington St, Indianapolis, IN 46222, USA
Finally, we’ll head down to Bloomington for the Wonderlab Science Museum, which should fill up the rest of your day (or the entire next one).
Wonderlab Museum/Facebook You can make this adventure last as long as you’d like; we recommend multiple days and at least two nights, but it’s doable in two days - you just need to keep an eye on your watch.
Much like the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, Wonderlab Science Museum seeks to educate kids and adults through hands-on experiences, real-life adventures, awe-inspiring exhibits, and more. This one is a must-do, especially for families with very curious children. Learn more - including the most up-to-date hours and admission info - on the official website. Finally, we suggest heading to French Lick and staying the night at the luxurious - but totally family-friendly - French Lick Springs Hotel.
French Lick Resort/Facebook The hotel has amenities and activities for families with kids specifically, and there’s no shortage of fun stuff to be done here. Learn about French Lick’s family-friendly fun on the official website. French Lick Springs Hotel, 8670 IN-56, French Lick, IN 47432, USA
While you’re in town, be sure to indulge in some of the best pizza and ice cream ever at French Lick’s.
French Licks/Facebook We’re not sure there’s a more sure-fire meal for a kid. Come on, pizza AND ice cream? This is almost too good to be true. Visit the official website for a full menu, hours, and more. 469 S Maple St, French Lick, IN 47432, USA
The next morning, get up bright and early and expect to spend at least half the day in a little town literally called Santa Claus.
Holiday World & Splashin Safari/Facebook Not only is Santa Claus Indiana’s premiere Christmas-themed town all year long, it’s also home to one of the most epic, family-friendly theme parks in the Midwest! Kill a few hours at Holiday World and experience the fun of no less than four major holidays while you’re at it. Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari, 452 E Christmas Blvd, Santa Claus, IN 47579, USA
Finally, we’ll end up at Wesselman Woods Nature Center.
Wesselman Woods/Facebook Learn about the world around us with the kids at this awesome nature park with plenty of great shows, events, and more. It also has some wonderful classes and courses, so be sure to explore the official website for all the details. 551 N Boeke Rd, Evansville, IN 47711, USA
