Here in Oregon, camping is a year-round activity, and we’re always up for pitching a tent and spending a night in the Great Outdoors. But not all Beaver State campsites are open year-round; and while this can sometimes cramp our camping style, it also makes the perennial campgrounds all the more special. Which brings us to today’s adventure: the campsite at Wallowa Lake State Park in Oregon that’s nestled right by a beautiful Alpine lake, and is open to guests year-round!

This might look like the type of pristine nature scene you’d find in the European Alps… but it’s not.

Open for camping year-round, the views of this lovely lake are especially sublime in the winter. However, please note that water is shut off to individual sites from October-May; and during the winter, first-come, first-served sites are available as plowing and maintenance allows.

This is a trip worth planning, however. The unspoiled wilderness area has small, sparkling lakes scattered at the base of 10,000-foot peaks and is a paradise for hikers, horseback riders, and naturalists.
