Gold was found in the Yukon Klondike in 1896, heralding the start of the Klondike Gold Rush. Skagway was a direct entry route for miners looking to get out and stake a claim. Incorporated in 1897, Skagway’s location grew to over 30,000 people very quickly.
Nowadays Skagway is much smaller, boasting a population of just over 1,100 people.

You’re just a quick drive away from some of Alaska and Canada’s most spectacular scenery. If you have a car, make sure you take a drive and see at least a part of the Golden Circle Route on the Alaska Highway.

Challenging at 33 miles long, it’s an epic adventure that you’ll never forget.
If you’re visiting town, you’ll most likely be spending some time on the water.
