Coffee drinkers know: there’s nothing more magical than that first sip of java in the morning. Coffee is life for busy professionals, cramming students, and exhausted parents. But it’s more than just a hot, caffeinated beverage; coffee is an experience. From visiting your favorite neighborhood coffee shop to taking in the aromas and warmth of your steaming cuppa (don’t worry iced coffee drinkers: we see you, too!), coffee is an important and enjoyable part of the day for so many. And in the Buckeye State, Florin Coffee is proudly pouring Ohioans cup after cup of delicious, specialty coffee each day. This Ohio-owned-and-operated coffee shop is all about creating a warm and welcoming environment for its customers, making specialty coffee accessible and transparent, and sharing smiles and positive vibes — one cup of joe at a time.
Florin Coffee is on a mission to debunk the “snobby coffee shop” stereotype.

The Columbus coffee shop is owned and run by Hans and Joelle Hochstedler, and it really is a family operation.

In late January 2020, the duo opened the doors to the current operation at 874 Oakland Park Avenue; and, in addition to the cafe space, all roasting, production, and distribution are done on-site, too.
Their mission is simple: to provide the community with high-quality, delicious coffee.

Transparency is really important to the Hochstedlers, who use trusted importers and farmers with whom they’ve developed relationships over the years.

The couple has traversed the globe to ensure their coffee is fairly and sustainably sourced, and also of the highest quality. They’ve traveled to Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Thailand, and other countries to meet directly with farmers.

Because behind the finished product of a bag of coffee beans, “there is a chain of real human beings,” says Joelle.

She explains: “Coffee producers, exporters, importers, roasters, production workers… we make sure each step of the supply chain is fair and transparent. So not only does our coffee taste good, it IS good!”

“What makes us stand out is our desire to help people enjoy the moments they set aside for coffee,” explains Joelle. “Whether it’s the early morning hours before the kids are up, or an afternoon pick-me-up between meetings, the coffee ritual signals a time to relax, reflect, and connect.”
