Fort Richardson State Park is a lovely piece of land in Jack Country, Texas, that’s rich with American history. Once home to the largest U.S. Army installation, today, several original army buildings still exist on the property. Additionally, Fort Richardson is popular for camping, hiking, biking, riding horses, fishing, swimming, and a whole host of other outdoor activities in Texas. The Fort itself still stands and is open for self-guided tours Tuesday through Sunday. Rangers are available to answer any questions you may have about this fascinating fort and the surrounding areas.

With plenty of campgrounds, Fort Richardson is a great place for a little weekend camping. There are even five campgrounds available for horseback riders!

Because Fort Richardson is a state park, you don’t need a fishing license to fish from the shore! Quarry Lake is stocked with bass, catfish, and trout, which can make a delicious dinner if you are planning to spend the night camping under the stars.

There are also plenty of trails; whether you are a hiker, biker, or horseback rider, you will surely find the perfect trail. With over 12 miles of trails in the State Park, there is plenty of room to spread out, stretch your legs, and explore.
