The world-famous Austin outpost is easily the most popular BBQ joint in the state, so secure a spot in line and prepare to enter foodie heaven.
Few restaurants are capable of drawing a crowd this large, but Austin’s world-famous Franklin Barbecue isn’t most restaurants.

Coming from humble beginnings, the East 11th Street eatery got its start as a food truck in 2009. It didn’t take long for the restaurant to become one of America’s most iconic BBQ joints.

Husband and wife duo Aaron and Stacy Franklin are the proud owners of Franklin BBQ. The pair opened the restaurant’s current brick-and-mortar location after lines around the block forced them to expand.

After a 20-month closure due to COVID-19, the dining room officially reopened in late November. Once again, Austinites happily wait for over two hours to get their fix.

The dining room is in no way fancy. Between the counter service and the paper menu taped to the wall, “unassuming” is a more accurate descriptor.

Luckily, the food does all the talking. For many, the melt-in-your-mouth brisket is where it’s at. Others prefer the pork ribs, with a peppery outer crust that will leave you begging for more.

Other meats include sausage, chopped beef, and turkey breast. Sides include pinto beans, potato salad, and coleslaw, and there are several pies available for dessert.

If you don’t feel like waiting in line, there are a couple of other options. Either place an order ahead for pickup (minimum three pounds of meat) or have the goods shipped to your door via Goldbelly! Each pickup order includes pickles, onions, barbecue sauce, and white bread.
