While Cleveland has its own expanse of unique parks, it’s worth venturing outside of the metropolitan area to explore other local parks. After all, Northeast Ohio is chock-full of unique history and beautiful landscapes. Today, we’re going to take a look at an Akron park with these features and more. Here, an early hydraulic engineer captured the natural power of water and built a race that fueled early mills. While his Chuckery Race ultimately failed, you can now hike the Chuckery Trail in Cascade Valley Metro Park… and you might even spot a few natural surprises along the way.

In the depths of the Summit Metro Parks, locals love visiting the Chuckery area. The trail is a bit challenging, but it comes with a huge payoff.

At 2.4 miles in length, the Chuckery Trail is best for more experienced hikers… but it’s worth the trek because its views of the Cuyahoga River are magical.
