For more than 80 years now, Pokagon State Park has transformed itself, every winter, into a safe haven for fun and games. Who says snowfall means the end of recreational shenanigans at Indiana’s beautiful state park? Definitely not the folks at Pokagon; in fact, this little state park is home to the fastest toboggan run in Indiana (so far). As of the time of this writing, the fastest recorded speed a rider has reached is 42 miles per hour. Think you can beat the record? It’s worth a try. After all, what’s the worst that can happen – you have a great time?
Interestingly, the track is actually refrigerated, so it doesn’t even need snow to operate.

Pokagon State Park is beautiful all year, but when it’s covered in a layer of snow, it’s especially lovely.
Benjamin Seese/Flickr We think there’s no better way to enjoy the scenery than in the form of a high-speed blur all around you as you careen down the quarter-mile-long track.
The tower you climb to the top is 30 feet tall, and thanks to all sorts of drops, valleys, and dips, the entire run has a total vertical drop of 90 feet.

At just $20 per toboggan per hour, it’s an affordable winter funfest for the whole family - or you and a group of your closest friends.
Benjamin Seese/Flickr Keep in mind that Pokagon State Park charges a small entry fee as well, so you’ll add that to the price of the toboggans. As of the time of this writing, fees are $7 for in-state vehicles, $9 for out-of-state vehicles, and $2 per person on buses.
Don’t worry about bringing your own toboggans - the park has got you covered.
Benjamin Seese/Flickr Do you think you can reach the record top speed? Think you can beat it? Might as well give it a shot; what else are we going to do until summer?
Should you decide you’d like to make a whole trip out of this, you can always stay in the nearby Potawatomi Inn.
Hallyn/Flickr The toboggan run is open on weekends from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the winter months. Make sure to check out the official DNR parks page for all the relevant dates, rules, and regulations.
So, what do you think? Plan on tobogganing any time soon? Tell us your thoughts in the comments, and while you’re there, tell us about the fastest you’ve ever gone on a sled or toboggan!
