Brown County, Indiana, is often considered to be the most beautiful, scenic region of the entire state. Indeed, it’s stunning, and it’s home to one of the most popular state parks around these parts, too. Brown County State Park is a nature lover’s dream come true, and it just so happens that there are a few quaint little towns nearby to explore while you’re at it. One such place is the itty-bitty little township of Helmsburg, a small town in Indiana that’s perfect for nature lovers looking to explore Brown County and all its glory.

The nearby town of Helmsburg is adorable and perfectly encapsulates the small-town, mom-and-pop vibe you’d probably expect in a paradise like Brown County.

Despite technically being unincorporated, Helmsburg has a post office of its own, and plenty of cute little shops and galleries.

A fun tidbit of trivia about the place is that it’s home to the For Bare Feet sock factory, which makes the socks, headbands, and wristbands worn by NBA players during games. Cool, huh? Otherwise, industry aside, it’s sleepy and quiet - and perfect for nature enthusiasts to connect with the planet and unwind.

It’s one of those things you’ve got to experience at least once: Brown County, Indiana, during fall. Spring and summer are also pretty amazing, with lush greenery, wildflowers, and waterfalls, and during winter, the whole area becomes something of a wonderland. You’ll definitely have to visit more than once to really experience Brown County during each season.
If Helmsburg is a little too rural for you, you can always stay in (and explore) the town of Nashville as well. Or, alternatively, you could spend one night in Helmsburg and one in Nashville – it’s truly up to you.
