We’re lucky that the most beautiful scenic byway in America is right here in New Hampshire! If you have a vehicle, driving along the Kancamangus Highway is a must-do to truly take in the landscape of the state. Winding its way through the White Mountains, the Kanc is about 56 miles and each turn offers scenery more impressive than the last. While just taking the drive is enough to satiate beauty-seekers, those who have the time should consider a stop at one of New Hampshire’s most beloved covered bridges.

The 56.39-mile journey on the Kancamangus Highway offers some of the most incredible views in the state. While the scenic drive becomes even more popular in the fall, it’s a lovely way to spend the day any time of year.

There are also a number of sights and attractions worth stopping to see.

The Albany Covered Bridge is one of our favorites!

Built back in 1858, the 120-foot bridge spans the Swift River.

The total cost of the build was a whopping $1,300! Before you start thinking it was a bargain, consider that this amount would be about $45,718 today. That still seems relatively inexpensive for something this beautiful and quaint.

When you visit, plan on walking through the bridge to get the full effect of the forest and the river.

You’ll find an educational marker with more information so be sure to read that, too. Then, simply enjoy your time out of the car taking in the White Mountains and all the makes this region of New Hampshire so special.
