No ordinary rock, Raven Rock is a promontory of Mississippian age sandstone. There are many different stories about how the rock received its name, one of the most popular is that it looks like a bird when seen from overhead.

You’ll also notice a series of three natural arches in the area, the result of time and weather. The largest arch measures 10 feet.

It’s believed that Native Americans used this as an important vantage point to spot settlers along the river on flatboats.
