The Ishkooda No. 13 Mine dates all the way back to 1873. Interestingly, it was established a couple of years before the city of Birmingham was founded. This historic iron-ore mine has been closed off for many years to the public. That is, until now.

In 2021, the concrete was removed from the mine’s entrance. The mine was then fully excavated. Today, it’s a popular park attraction that allows visitors to learn a little about Birmingham’s mining history. Visitors can actually walk up and peek inside the mine. Keep in mind, for safety purposes, steel bars have been installed.
