When you think of New Jersey, you probably think of the white sandy beaches and the tourist-filled boardwalks. But, there is a lot more to New Jersey than just the coast. This state is also home to beautiful natural life that is a little calmer than the busy beach towns. We’re talking about forest escapes. One of our favorites is Jenny Jump State Forest. Located in Warren County, Jump Jump State Forest is 4,466 acres of majestic trees, mountains, rock formations, and bodies of water.

The park’s name has an interesting origin. Folklore states that a young girl named Jenny jumped to her death off of Jenny Jump Mountain Range while being chased by a Native American.

Beautiful bodies of water can be spotted throughout the park, but there is more to see than just what’s on the ground. Jenny Jump State Forest is also home to a few observatories where visitors are invited to look at the stars.

There are many hiking trails throughout the park leading to mountain tops and bodies of water that are perfect to sit beside for an afternoon picnic.

Large boulder formations in Jenny Jump State Forest are the result of the Wisconsin glaciation, which occurred approximately 21,000 years ago.
