Ohio’s trails are beautiful. Showcasing the state’s natural beauty and diverse landscapes, these special routes always renew our appreciation for the Buckeye State. Yet there are a handful of trails that are a bit more intriguing, either for their history or their alleged hauntings. Today’s feature trail is a creepy one because it will take you right through an abandoned railroad tunnel. Ohio has its fair share of abandoned tunnels. You’ve likely heard of one of the more famous of them, the iconic Moonville Tunnel.

Not far from this iconic Ohio landmark awaits yet another abandoned train tunnel: the King’s Hollow Tunnel in New Marshfield. In fact, it sits along the same former railroad line as the Moonville Tunnel.

The tunnel was built in 1855 when it was originally used by the Marietta & Cincinnati Railroad. Over the course of its lifespan, it also served the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad and CSC Railroad.

Ever since the 1980s, the tunnel has remained abandoned. Yet it’s by no means forgotten; many a hiker and explorer have braved to hike to this hidden gem of a destination.

One factor that sets this abandoned tunnel apart is that it’s completely timber-lined. This is quite a feat considering the fact that it’s 352 feet long.

The easiest way to access this landmark is by parking at the park near the intersection of King Hollow Trail and Rockcamp Road.
