The Magnolia State is such a beautiful place. When visitors come for the first time, a common remark is “I didn’t realize Mississippi was so pretty!” If you’ve lived here for a while, you may have become accustomed to our lovely surroundings. If you find yourself needing a reminder that Mississippi is one of the prettiest states around, one place worth checking out is Red Bluff. The scenery here is unlike anything else in the state.
Red Bluff is located in Foxworth, a few miles west of the Pearl River. This canyon is also nicknamed the Little Grand Canyon, and it’s easy to see why! It’s such a unique landscape for Mississippi.

Red Bluff was made by erosion from the Pearl River, and the area is actually still eroding today. A nearby highway has had to be moved several times due to the shifting of the land.

The best way to see Red Bluff is with a short hike of around a mile. The trail goes through the canyon and will have you scrambling up and over the rocks and valleys of the bluff.

Though the distance isn’t long, it is a bit of a trek! Make sure to wear waterproof shoes, as it can get a little muddy in areas. You’ll want to pick something with plenty of traction so that you can climb uphill on the way back.

You can take slightly different paths throughout the bluff to get different experiences.
