There are numerous iconic dishes in the Bluegrass State, from burgoo and hot browns to bourbon balls and fried chicken. But none are quite as delicious as transparent pie. Made from a batter of butter, sugar, cream, and vanilla that’s poured into a simple pie crust, transparent pie truly is the sum of its parts. A labor of love that lasted 77 fruitful years, in 2019, the Dicksons retired and the bakery was sold to Comprehend Inc., a developer that bought the rights to the Magee’s name and signature recipes. They moved the original Maysville store to a new location. The Lexington shop remains at 726 E. Main Street.
