Northern Kentucky often gets lumped in with its neighbor to the north, Cincinnati, but this region has a unique identity and culture that’s well worth exploring. Covington, for example, is a historic town located at the confluence of the Ohio and Licking Rivers, and it’s home to beautiful old houses, charming eateries, picturesque city parks, and beloved local businesses. Covington is perhaps best-known for MainStrasse Village, a collection of restaurants and shops that feels like something straight from the Old Country. And perusing this stretch of shops in Kentucky is, in our humble opinion, the most perfect way to spend an afternoon in the Bluegrass State.

Northern Kentucky is often lumped in with “Greater Cincinnati,” and while the Queen City is undeniably lovely, this region of the Bluegrass is home to some of the most historic and unique towns in the state.

The Goebel Park Carroll Chimes Clock Tower is Covington’s most iconic attraction, with a whimsical puppet show playing on the hour April through December. This makes for the perfect soundtrack as you wander the streets of this historic district!

MainStrasse is also known for the Goose Girl Fountain, a landmark that was commissioned by the Northern Kentucky Convention and Visitor’s Bureau and unveiled in 1980. It’s based on the “Goose Girl” fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm and represents the culture of this Old World-inspired Kentucky town.
