Not many people know there’s a piece of the Eiffel Tower right here in the Crescent City. It’s a hidden gem only city locals usually know about. The story of its journey to Louisiana may surprise you! Check it out:

In 1937 there was a restaurant that was on the top of the Eiffel Tower in France.

Wikimedia In 1981 it was deemed too heavy, and actually causing parts of the tower to sink, jeopardizing the structural integrity of the tower.

The structure was removed piece by piece (11,000 pieces!) and shipped to America.

David McKelvey/Flickr A local businessman bought the structure with plans to keep it as a restaurant.

Construction began in 1984 to rebuild the restaurant, but it closed down years later due to lack of business.
