Arizona has its fair share of historic restaurants. One of them is the Stockyards Steakhouse, nestled in the heart of our capital city. Dating to the 1940s, this timeless eatery is like a portal back to the Wild West. It’s among the oldest restaurants in Arizona, and the steak is some of the best you’ll ever have. Hungry yet? Our story begins in 1919, when Edward A. Tovrea opened the Tovrea Stockyards.

In 1947, The Stockyards Restaurant opened its doors.

Stockyards Steakhouse Known as “Arizona’s Original Steakhouse,” the eatery served as a gathering place for noteworthy figures, such as bankers, politicians, and - of course - cattle barons.

Unfortunately, a fire destroyed the restaurant in 1953.

Stockyards Steakhouse It reopened the very next year, then in 2004, it underwent a massive renovation after being added to the City of Phoenix Historic Register.

The steakhouse may have gotten a facelift, but it’s still the same old Stockyards Arizonans have known and loved for decades.
