Here in Idaho, we like to start ’em early when it comes to gaining an appreciation for adventure and our state’s natural beauty. Finding a kid-friendly hike around Idaho is simple enough (there are lots of them!), but this hike to Revett Lake is a must for all nature-loving families. Ranked by AllTrails as one of the best kid-friendly hikes in Idaho, hikers both young and old will find themselves in awe of the beautiful scenery that can be found along this trail. Leading you straight to a lovely waterfall and crystal clear lake, this adventure is one for the (photo)books.

A very easy and scenic hiking trail awaits in the remote country of the Idaho Panhandle National Forest. The hike to Revett Lake is just a three-mile, round-trip excursion and it makes for an adventure the whole family can enjoy.

The trailhead is located very close to the Idaho-Montana border, near the town of Wallace. There are two access points to the trailhead parking area, one from Coeur d’Alene and the other from Wallace.

The trail to Revett Lake is fairly easygoing, with only a few mild inclines to traverse. From the beginning, a narrow trail will lead you through a lush forest before emerging onto a granite mountain slope that boasts magnificent views of the surrounding landscape.

From here, the trail continues into a forested area where you’ll enjoy the sight of dense foliage, including bright green ferns, a babbling creek, and even a cascading waterfall.

The trail then starts an ascent up Granite Peak, turning towards Revett Lake at a switchback. A path leads you straight to the glistening tree-lined lake where you’ll find plenty of camping sites and places to relax while taking in the view.

Surrounded by vibrant mountain scenery, Revett Lake is definitely a beauty. The lake’s cold waters are particularly refreshing during the summer, which has made it a popular spot for families as the temperatures start to heat up.

The Around-The-Rock Trail is a 1.1-mile loop trail with very little elevation gain. However, you will hike all around the coolest rock formations of all shapes and sizes. In the northern part of the state, near Sandpoint and off of Schweitzer Mountain Road, is the Viewski Loop Trail. This is one of the best easy hikes in Idaho. The trail is only 1.5-miles long and will take you through wooded areas and to some gorgeous viewpoints. If bringing little ones on this trail, be prepared for a few steep inclines. When considering the best hikes in Idaho, you must add a waterfall hike to that list. Snow Creek Falls, also located in northern Idaho and near Bonners Ferry, is the perfect hike for all ages and experience levels. You will walk right through the forest and to some gorgeous falls. While this is certainly a scenic trail, this is another hike where you’ll want to be prepared for a few challenging areas along your journey.
