There are small towns in Utah that you don’t come across unless you are meaning to drive through them. Panguitch, located in southern Utah, is one of these small towns. It is a rural town with farmland and beautiful mountains surrounding it. This area has a rich pioneer history and signs of its past are still evident throughout the town today. In fact, much of Panguitch’s Main Street is on the National Register of Historic Places. While it may be small, this is one Utah town that still has plenty to offer.

Panguitch is located in southern Utah and is approximately 20 minutes from Bryce Canyon National Park and 70 minutes from Zion National Park.

With a population of just over 1,700, there’s no question why this small town in Utah seems to have a slower pace and a charming feel to it.

However, Panguitch does come to life each summer during the annual Hot Air Balloon Rally, Quilt Walk Festival, rodeos, and the other events that bring hundreds of people to this small town.

Although it doesn’t matter when you visit Panguitch, as there is plenty to see and do all year round. Just outside of this historic Utah town, you will find the Arches Trail. This hiking trail will lead you through incredible red rocks to natural arches.

Be prepared to see remarkable hoodoos and natural arches that are quite breathtaking and picturesque. If climbing on this trail during the summer months, make sure to bring plenty of water as there is little shade.

Panguitch is also home to many restaurants, but there is one you must visit when your stomach starts to growl: C-Stop Pizza.

All of the dough and sauces at C-Stop Pizza are made from scratch and while you can always customize your own pizza, we recommend trying one of the signature pizzas. Just don’t forget the breadsticks because they are amazing!

Of course, no trip to Panguitch is complete without a visit to Panguitch Lake. Panguitch is a Native American word meaning “Big Fish.” This name is quite fitting as some of the largest trout in the Beehive State call this lake home.

Ken Lund/Flickr Panguitch Lake was once just a large lake but is now a reservoir due to the creation of a dam. It is a popular place for fishermen all year long. But, if you don’t want to throw in a line, this area offers peace, quiet, and gorgeous views — the perfect combination.

Whether you are continuing your journey down south, to Bryce Canyon National Park, or you are looking for a getaway destination in Utah, you’ll never regret a visit to Panguitch, Utah.
