Many of Utah’s waterfalls are down to just a trickle by the end of summer, but there’s one, in particular, that’s pretty impressive year-round. Even better, you don’t even need to hike to see it. When searching online for waterfalls near me in Utah, Upper Provo River Falls is one you don’t want to miss.

Upper Provo River Falls is one of Utah’s most majestic waterfalls. It’s located about 23 miles from Kamas, up the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway in the High Uintas.

Watch for the signs and you’ll see the parking lot on your left. A quick stroll down a few stairs will take you right to the viewing area of the falls.

If you’d like, you can take the steep path to the left of the falls to get closer to the river. There are large boulders on the hill that are perfect for sitting on to enjoy a picnic lunch.

From the banks of the river, you’ll have a different perspective of the falls, and there are plenty of spots where you can get some great angles for photos. During summer weekends the falls are quite crowded, but they’re much less busy during weekdays. This is the perfect time to search for waterfalls near me in Provo Canyon.

On a hot, summer day you can put your feet in the river or splash around right near the banks, but you’ll want to keep your distance in the spring and early summer months when the raging waters can easily sweep you away. Like all Utah waterfalls, the water level tends to be very high during spring runoff, and gradually becomes lower as the summer progresses.

All around the Beehive State, you will find gorgeous hiking trails that lead to magnificent waterfalls. One of our favorite hiking trails with waterfalls in Utah is found in the southern part of the state. Lower Calf Creek Falls is one of the most beautiful and well-known waterfalls in Utah. The waterfall is approximately 130-feet tall, and you’ll find a natural pool at the bottom of the falls where you can splash around and cool off after your hike. The hike to these falls is approximately 3 miles one-way so you do have quite a bit of distance to cover from start to finish. Make sure you wear proper hiking shoes on this trail as it is quite sandy and difficult in areas. Fortunately, however, the trail is relatively flat. Up north, in the Mount Timpanogos Wilderness, you will find Stewart Falls. This is one of Utah’s most scenic and tallest waterfalls. This is a two-tier waterfall that is over 200-feet tall — it’s quite impressive. To reach these stunning falls, you will have a 3.4-mile, out-and-back trail to conquer. This hiking trail is rated moderate as there are some steep and challenging areas on the trail. However, despite a bit of difficulty, this entire hiking trail is gorgeous, and it is easily one of the best waterfall hikes in Utah.
