In fact, the story of Rebecca Ruth Candy is absolutely fascinating. In 1919, two substitute school teachers in their mid-twenties, Ruth Hanly (Booe) and Rebecca Gooch, decided they were not cut out for the education field. The young women had received high praise from family and friends for the chocolates they gifted during the holiday season. So they decided to open a chocolate shop together.
