Every year, locals and tourists alike head to Anchorage, Alaska for a fun winter festival. Fur Rondy has been an established event for 85 years, and for good reason. With so many events to see and so much fun to be had, you have to put this festival on your winter bucket list!

Fur Rondy is a fabulous winter event that takes place in downtown Anchorage, Alaska each winter.

This festival is actually the largest winter event in Alaska.

Troy B. Thompson / Flickr Over the course of ten days, there are almost 50 different events, all fun, wacky, and a great way to brighten a winter’s day. There are also 20 cultural and sporting activities and events, like the Running Of The Reindeer.

Similar to Spain’s “Running of the Bulls,” “Running With The Reindeer” is exactly that.

Arctic Warrior / Flickr Runners head out ahead of the reindeer, and make their way down 4th Avenue in downtown Anchorage. The reindeer quickly catch up, and the athletes have to dodge out of the way!

This is a far tamer event than “Running With The Bulls,” and there are rarely injuries; just a lot of laughter!

This event requires prior registration if you’re going to participate.

There are also so many other awesome events all through Fur Rondy, like the Blanket Toss.
