Next time you aren’t in the mood for a full-day hike, look no further than S’mores Trail. This two-mile, quick and easy stroll is just as sweet as the delicious dessert it’s named after. Check out what we’re certain is one of the best hikes in Kansas – it’s almost too beautiful to be real, but that’s just Kansas for you.

At just two miles long, S’mores Trail is a quick and easy stroll through Wyandotte County Lake Park. It’s an out-and-back hike, and the elevation gain is under 200 feet, so all skill levels can enjoy the adventure.

The woodland terrain is reminiscent of a fairytale, and the enchantment only grows with each additional step you take. Vibrant greenery lines the path, its jungle-like appearance transporting hikers to a faraway exotic paradise.

Wooden footbridges every so often provide a nice change of pace, enhancing the storybook feel even further. You’ll be half-expecting to look up and see fairies flitting about in the treetops!

Depending on the season, you might catch a glimpse of some truly eye-popping wildflowers. You won’t quite know where to look because the beauty is just all-encompassing.

Gnarled tree roots snake across the path, creating uneven footing at times – so watch your step! Even still, the old limbs are absolutely magical to behold.

Although the trail doesn’t directly parallel Wyandotte County Lake, the water still peeks out through the trees every once in a while. It emanates a cool breeze that dances across your skin and offers rejuvenation for the rest of the hike.

Since the trail is relatively flat, it’s perfect for mountain biking, as well. Even if you’re just getting started, beginners have reported great success using S’mores as a jumping-off point, so to speak.

Best Hikes In Kansas March 16, 2022 Tori Jane What are some wonderful kid-friendly hikes around Kansas?   For the purposes of this answer, we’ll define a kid-friendly hike as one that’s not only rated by hikers as “easy” but is also under two miles in length. Interestingly, more than half of Kansas’s more than 500 trails fit the description. Some of our favorite kid-friendly hikes around Kansas include gems like the Horse Thief Trail at Kanopolis Lake State Park. It’s 1.9 miles long and features some amazing greenery. Then there’s the Chisholm Creek Trail, at Chisholm Creek Park; that one is 1.7 miles long and comes alive with wildflowers every year. Finally, check out the epic Monument Rocks Chalk Pyramids hike, which features some rare geological formations (for Kansas, anyway) and lots of interesting views along the way.   What are some of the most scenic hikes in Kansas?   Kansas is a much more spectacular state than most people seem to give it credit for. It may not be a mountainous place or one with a lot of geological significance, but that doesn’t mean it’s not home to plenty of scenic hikes. Kansas is a great state for hiking! Many of the trails weaving through the state are quite scenic, especially if you’re a fan of grasslands and endless blue skies. Some of our favorite scenic hikes in Kansas include the amazing Konza Prairie Nature Trail, in Manhattan, which is a splendid hike featuring – you guessed it – some of Kansas’s only remaining wild tallgrass prairies along the way. If you’ve never seen grass waving in the breeze like all one entity (think a body of water), you haven’t lived. If you’re a fan of prairie hikes, be sure to also check out the three-mile-long trek that is the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve Trail. It’s a bit more challenging than the Konza Prairie Trail, but it’s worth it even just for a glimpse of the wild buffalo herd that roams the grounds. Want some more ideas?
