General Butler State Resort Park is an immensely beautiful – and criminally underrated – Kentucky State Park. It’s located on the border of Kentucky and Indiana, and its centerpiece is the beguiling Butler Lake.

But there’s so much more to this state park than what you’d expect. General Butler is a place of great historic significance, with the Butler Turpin State Historic House a popular point of interest.

Hiking abounds in this state park, too, with the General Butler Fossil Loop Trail one of the finest in the Bluegrass State.

Because not only does this trail traverse some seriously spectacular Bluegrass scenery; it leads to a little-known overlook with what’s quite possibly the most breathtakingly beautiful vista in Kentucky.
