Michigan is blessed with a lot of beautiful waterfalls, especially in the Upper Peninsula. The largest waterfall in Michigan is worth the drive up to the small town of Paradise near the shores of Lake Superior.
Tahquamenon Falls State Park, named for its most famous waterfall, is a massive park. Tahquamenon Falls is easily accessible via a 0.3-mile paved trail that leads visitors to the falls. To the left is a riverside boardwalk with expansive views of the falls and surrounding forest. To the right are 94 steps that lead straight to the brink of the falls.
Tahquamenon Falls is one of the largest waterfalls east of the Mississippi River, with the Upper Falls measuring nearly 50 feet high and 200 feet across.

An added bonus of the Upper Falls area is Tahquamenon Falls Brewery located next to the parking lot. This rustic brewpub features a focused menu of burgers and sandwiches.

Four miles downstream is the Lower Falls, a series of small cascades on both sides of an island in the middle of the Tahquamenon River. Visitors can rent a rowboat to explore the island.

A 0.4-mile boardwalk grants visitors access to the falls. If you wish to hike to the Upper Falls from here, the boardwalk transitions to a dirt path. The Upper Falls are nearly 5 miles from this point.

Tahquamenon Falls State Park, though famous for the waterfall, is more than 50,000 acres spreading across 13 miles all the way to Lake Superior. You’ll find 35 miles of hiking trails, including a portion of the North Country Trail.
