For years, the Wheeling Creek has been noted for its abundance of recreational opportunities. The picturesque body of water is located near the West Virginia city of Wheeling and cuts across the state’s northern panhandle. It is located at the Ohio state line.

Wheeling Creek has been noted for its water trails, which serve as the perfect platform for kayaking, tubing, and canoeing. Most of the creek is adjacent to rural farmlands, but it heads into the more urban areas of Wheeling as it leads into the Ohio River.

Locals refer to Wheeling Creek as an ideal water trail for beginners trying their hand at kayaking because of its terrain. It has a few minor twists and turns, but it mostly is situated on flatwater, meaning it is easy enough to navigate.

Kayaking on Wheeling Creek is most optimal when the local water tables are average or above average. This occurs when the creek is in the range of 1.8 feet to 4 feet in depth. Water levels below 1.8 feet could require kayakers walk a portion of the water trail.

In the more urbanized areas of the creek, kayakers have the opportunity to dock their watercraft at various areas. The docks give kayakers the opportunity to enjoy area multi-use trails, parks, and local restaurants that line the embankment.
