Opened in 1939, Top of the Mark is especially known for a unique tradition that began in World War II. A squadron member would buy a “squadron bottle” and leave it in the bartender’s care. A fellow member could enjoy a free drink from the bottle when they visited. Whoever took the last drink was bound by honor to purchase a new bottle.

The Squadron Bottle tradition persists to this day, actually. All veterans and military personnel can enjoy a free shot from a squadron bottle. You can also purchase a bottle from the bartender to add to the collection!
