The great outdoors in Maine is what living in New England is all about! Sure there are other states with beautiful coasts and lush forests, but none are quite as quintessential to the region as our state. If you agree and find yourself constantly on the hunt for great ways to get outside, we’ve got a fantastic option for you. This hike leading to a beautiful overlook in Maine will have you wishing you could enjoy the salty air of the region’s best state every single day!
The 19 acres that make up Porters Preserve in Trevett were donated by Nathaniel Porter in 1984. You’ll find the preserve on the southern tip of Barters Island, not far from Boothbay.

The water views along the hike are breathtaking, but it’s the overlook at the end that we love best!

There are plenty of places to sit and enjoy the view along the way and some of the best will make you feel like you’ve arrived at the end of the world.

With nothing but water in front of you, you’ll feel like you’ve escaped to another land. And, some might argue that you have!

Porters Preserve White Loop Trail is accessible year-round, but visitors say it’s best in the spring, summer and fall. We especially love that dogs are welcome. Just be sure to keep them on a leash. You can learn more about it by visiting this page on AllTrails.
