Rhode Island sure does have its fair share of precious small towns to visit. With more than a few on the National Register of Historical Places, and many boasting a boatload of fun things to do, it can be tough to choose where to plan your visit to. Well, luckily, Little Compton has been named one of the bets small towns in America by multiple online publications, and we think that means that it would be the perfect choice for a vacation.

Little Compton is a little under 30 square miles in total, with almost ten of that being accounted for by water, and the population is only about 3,500 people, so when we say small town, you can be sure that we mean it!

The coastline in the town is absolutely stunning, and there are two beaches to explore, Goosewing Beach and South Shore Beach.

While these beaches are great for swimming in the summer months, do not underestimate them in the cooler seasons. You can still have a lot of fun strolling about and watching the waves crash.

Also well worth your time are the town commons, one of only three of their kind in the state, this plot of land is on the national register of historic places.

And there is no shortage of great dining in the town. We recommend the Commons Lunch for tasty American fare, or if you’re looking for something more upscale, try the Sakonnet Point Club.

Lovers of architecture will find joy in Little Compton at the Wilbor House, now home to the Little Compton Historical Society.

Just make sure to leave some time for shopping on your trip! There are some really fun thrift shops to treasure hunt in, as well as one of Americas oldest general stores, Grays.
