Over the past year, the Tar Heel State has seen a devastating number of wildfires. To our dismay, we’re here to report that yet another fire broke out in the Pisgah National Forest on Sunday evening. Firefighters from the surrounding area have been working hard all week to contain the blazing flames of this disaster. Here’s what we know about the Dobson Knob fire that’s still burning:

With no injuries yet reported, the Dobson Knob fire has been blazing through the forest since 6:15 pm on Sunday evening.

While the exact cause of the fire is still being investigated, officials are assuming that it was man-made.

According to the most recent reports, the fire has now burned over 1,400 acres and is 15 percent contained.

This week, more than 100 firefighters have been working to contain the disaster, with people coming from nearby departments in Hankins, Marion, North Cove and Woodlawn.

Because of how quickly the fire has spread, air quality has become a major concern to those who live in the area.

The National Weather Service has advised a Code Orange Air Quality Alert until midnight, suggesting that those in the area should refrain from staying outside for too long.

The U.S. Forest Service has reported that a community meeting will be held tonight at 7 pm, where those attending will discuss the most recent progress of the fire’s containment.

Trails at Dobson Knob, like the Mountains to Sea Trail, have been closed, with other road closures in the surrounding area.
