There’s something oh so magical about reading. The words we consume have the power to transport us to another world and, oftentimes, they do. Today we’re going to take a virtual visit to a dreamy reading garden in Cleveland that’s almost like another world in and of itself… one where creative works of art are as commonplace as trees. Ready? Let’s dive into this literary landscape:

It may not look like much from the street, but behind these trees is a little urban oasis filled with art.

While books have the power to take you to other worlds, the Eastman Reading Garden in Cleveland is a real-life magical destination.

The land between the two main Cleveland Public Library buildings was once an unloved park, but Eastman Park transformed the landscape when it was dedicated in 1937.

Helena Boulding/Google Images Instantly, it became a welcoming outdoor reading space. Previously, it hosted public art… but today, the park itself is a work of art.

Decades later, it was rededicated as the Eastman Reading Garden in 1960, and it has been an incredible place to enjoy a book (or write one, or scroll through your phone, or just relax) ever since.

Public art, like the magical little bronze helpers designed by Tom Otterness, was added to the space in 1998 to bring it to its current state.

Derek Oyen/Flickr Landscaping, paved stone walkways, and art give the park a unique and welcoming vibe that visitors today appreciate. It’s hard to imagine the space as anything other than an artistic escape.

While its permanent art installations are beautiful, there’s something incredible about the pop-up exhibits that appear in the garden from time to time.

You may enjoy keeping quiet and bird watching here, but the garden also offers wifi to provide you with some versatility in this outdoor workspace.

The garden is open to the public during Main Library hours, which are typically Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

You’ll have to take a moment to explore the interior of the library during your visit as well. Depression-era art adds a degree of magic to its space indoors!
