Tucked away in the forests of Catskill, New York, this old attraction is slowly transforming from a fun family destination to an eerily whimsical spot. Read on to learn more about the site and check out the intriguing images captured by photographer Cory Seamer.

It was a family-friendly zoo in the woods.

In its early days, the attraction held only deer, donkeys and sheep.

In 1958, it was formally recognized as a zoo by the United States Department of Agriculture.

It was the first privately owned establishment to be awarded that status.

As a result, the Catskill Game farm expanded to include more exotic creatures.

The zoo was home to a white rhino, vervet monkeys, bison, cranes and African porcupines among many other species.

This place was a popular destination for families across the state.

Sadly, the attraction was forced to close in 2009.

The owner cited mounting financial difficulty and falling attendance as the reason for the closure.

The amusement park rides were auctioned off along with the animals.

Today, the abandoned site of the former zoo is still sitting quietly in the forest.

In 2012, the attraction was purchased by new owners who announced plans to reopen the Game Farm as a family-friendly attraction once more. They also plan to add a B&B, campground and RV resort, complete with animals.
