With all of the trails that crisscross Minnesota, it is curious that there aren’t more restaurants along the trails. After all, what better time to grab a bite than after a long walk or bike across Minnesota’s beautiful landscape? However, there are still a few restaurants that are easy to access from the trails. For example, Scoops Ice Cream in Elysian, Minnesota, is right off the Sakatah Singing Hills State Trail. And the beautiful Trestle Inn in Finland, Minnesota, is nestled among popular snowmobile trails. Today, we’d like to add another trailside restaurant to the list. Also along Sakatah Singing Hills State Trail, the Knotty Bar & Grill serves up fantastic food in a casual but modern setting. Take a look:
The Knotty Bar & Grill is a lovely restaurant in Elysian, Minnesota. Thanks to the log cabin exterior, it fits right into its woodsy setting along Sakatah Singing Hills State Trail.

Inside, the woodsy cabin vibe continues. True to its name, the restaurant is lined in knotty pine. But it does not feel dated. Instead, the Knotty is a bright and modern restaurant.

As for the menu, the Knotty Bar & Grill specializes in American fare. Burgers and sandwiches are menu staples, each served with a pile of kettle chips or fries.

If you crave something a bit extra, you may want to try the prime rib. Cooked to perfection and amazingly flavorful, it’s served every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

For those with a hankering for BBQ, you can’t go wrong with the Knotty’s ribs. They’re slow-cooked, smothered with BBQ sauce, and absolutely heavenly. If you’re not up for ribs, another great choice is the BBQ sandwich.
