Mississippi is home to lots of famous sites and historic landmarks. Sometimes, you’re lucky enough to find a place that qualifies as both – and that’s certainly the case with the White House Hotel. Not only is it the most famous hotel in Mississippi, but it’s also one of the most historic places you’ll ever sleep.
Known as the Grand Dame of the Gulf Coast, the White House Hotel is a stately boutique hotel in Biloxi.

Its popularity comes as no surprise, though. The hotel has a lot to offer, including a lengthy past that goes all the way back to 1895.

Initially much smaller, the hotel started off as a one-building boarding house.

By 1910, it grew to include a row of seven Victorian homes, two of which were later joined to create a lobby, dining room, and ballroom.

In 1915, the hotel was making headlines. The Daily Herald reported that an orchestra of musicians from New Orleans would perform daily at the hotel.

Before long, it became known as the “leading hotel of Biloxi,” hosting some famous faces, including President Taft.

Sadly, its success dwindled, and by 1988, the hotel closed its doors. It sat vacant for decades and fell into disrepair.
